So my bff has hired me to create a cozy, relaxing family room with lots of storage for toys. You see, she is a mom of 2.5 year old twins, hence the TOYS!!!!
Obviously, there are quite a few design challenges in this room, the wall paneling, the massive 60’s style(?) fireplace and um, the TOYS! I’ve been doing a lot of research and have a few tricks up my sleeves, but I also thought I’d turn to you for some suggestions . . .
She wants the fireplace painted, a bulkier mantle, shelves built to flank fireplace as well as update the current wall situation.
Here are a few more pics:
So what do you think?
We had wood paneling in our family room before it was painted. Do you plan on painting? Have you seen those large shelving units from Ikea?http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40047675maybe you could add some baskets or bins to the cubbyholes to hid the toys.I can't wait to see what you do to the room. I bet it turns out great!
Thanks Brandi for the suggestions, you're the best! I will definitley look into Ikea, I do plan on painting the walls and she would like the fireplace painted t0o, I'm thinking of doing some kind of wood fireplace surround to mask some of that dated brickwork and painting the wood walls my fav almond cream paint . . . oi, I've got my work cut out for me, but I love a challenge!
