Super Easy Gift Idea: Candy Bar Arrangement

Well, this idea came to me at the very last minute, I mean VERY last minute! My big bro and I both reached milestone b-day’s this year, he turned 40 and I turned 30(*tear*).  Well while on his way to the casino to celebrate his birthday he called me to tell me to “Clean my house” because he and my sis in law were stopping by.  “Yikes!,” I thought, my house was a mess and I hadn’t planned on seeing him so I hadn’t picked up a gift for him yet, plus I’m on a super tight budget (as usual). Then this thought came to mind, I had seen this arrangement done with fruit (Edible Arrangements of course)

and with gift cards (but you need money-and a good amount of it for those).

Then I thought to myself, “What does my brother love more than me, his wife and possibly his children combined?” (just kidding Marlon, Jackie, err . . . kids) CANDY! My brother puts the Sweet in Sweet tooth.

So I gathered a few things, a tin coffee can, some popsicle/wooden craft sticks, some tissue paper/cellophane, my handy dandy glue gun/glue sticks and the two foam balls I had planned on making some kind of X-mas ornament with and few packages of snack sized candy bars and came up with this:

I simply shoved the foam balls to fit inside the can, hot glued the candy bars to the sticks (sometimes doubling and tripling the sticks to extend them) and arranged them by height, into the foam balls. If I had had more time I would have used a soup can and decorated it with scrapbooking paper( had I had any, seeing as how I don’t even scrapbook, lol) but the tin can worked out well and besides I have a plethora of the same ones in gold and burgundy, that my husband bought at a storage auction, just waiting to be used for something.

because I can’t seem to keep well enough alone I added some candy canes and then went on and added the star with the “40” in it . . .

and a personalized gift tag from the kiddos . . . As you can see, I also added some “PayDay’s” because of his trip to the casino, get it? payday-casino, yeah, I’m a genius like that, lol.

and then after all of my hard work (no, but seriously it took my like 15-20 mins.) He never showed!  And after guarding it with my life for a week, I finally gave in and let the hubby and kiddos have at it . . . ( I later re-created it for my big brother and it was a huge hit!)

Here it is recreated, this time I added a Fiber Bar for laughs, seeing he’s over the hill now, everyone could use a little fiber, no?

This would make an awesome teacher/boss/friend/mailman-gift for anyone! (do you gift your mailman?)

Give it a try and link back if you do, I’d love to see what you come up with!
