Easy Pine Cone Wall Hanging

If you are visiting from Instagram, you may already know that I have collaborated with 7 of my bestest blogging buddies to bring to you #FABFALLFEST, a weekly fall themed hashtag party-starting today, which will lead up to fab fall tours on all 8 of our blogs!

So I’m just going to go right on out and say it . . . I LOVE FALL!  and do you know what I love even more than fall?  Free Decor!  Or . . . natural . . .decor . . .Yes!  Using natural elements to decorate my home.  So in honor of our first annual #FABFALLFEST’s week 1 theme, wall decor (which could be wreaths, printables, chalkboards or signs), I’m going to show you how I made an easy-peasy and free, pine cone wall hanging to use on our front door.

Similar to the no weave wall hanging that I made for my daughter’s room, this wall hanging is super easy and will not take you much time at all.

Gather your materials:

  • 5-Pine cones (from your backyard, local park, or purchase them – -the cinnamon scented ones would be divine!)
  • 1-Interesting looking stick, you know not a plain one, so it looks rustic
  • String or Twine
  • Scissors
  • Glue Gun and glue sticks (not pictured)
  • Nail Polish or Craft Paint (color of your choice)

Easy Pine Cone Wall Hanging

Last year I gathered a plethora of pine cones and debugged them to prevent this from happening again.

TO DEBUG:

Place freshly gathered pine cones on a foil lined baking sheet, at 200 degrees for an hour to rid them of critters, it also helps to harden sap, so it’s not all sticky and messy.

Once cool, paint the edges of your pine cones . . .

And the edges of your stick and let dry.

Cut 5 pieces of string.  1 long, 2 medium, and 2 small (actual length depends on preference).

Make a loop and tie knots at the end of each string loop.

Decide on an arrangement for your pine cones. I placed mine in a “V” shape.

Squeeze a drop of hot glue to the ends of each pine cone and carefully place knot into the glue drop and press lightly.

Wrap loop partially around your stick and pull the pine cones through each loop, creating a knot. Adjust lengths if necessary.

Tie an additional piece of string securely onto the stick to hang.

And although I created mine for the front door, it could also be used indoors as well to create a cozy little fall vignette.

So what do you think friends?  I’m kind of smitten with it!
