A Cozy and Neutral Walk-In Closet with Behr® Color Trends 2021 Palette

This post in collaboration with BEHR® Paint and The Home Depot. As always all opinions are 100% my own.

You guys are going to think I’m crazy, but I have another secret I’ve been keeping from you all.  We all know that the easiest way to change the look and feel of a space is through paint, right?  Well, I recently repainted my walk-in closet and built-ins!

But—aren’t you moving, you ask? And didn’t you just paint that space?
Well—yeah, but I decided to do this before we had a committed buyer, and although I loved the moody blue color I painted it a little over a year ago, I’ve had painter’s regret (I’m pretty sure I just made that up, but just go with it, lol) for a while now.  So, I’m excited to share with you the new paint color that I am literally obsessed with—-drum roll please:
Barnwood Gray PPU24-07 from BEHR Paint, a beautiful, warm and serene, neutral paint color which is part of the newly launched BEHR® Color Trends 2021 Palette, a collection of 21 comfortable and inspiring colors for any room, and guess what?  20 other creators are showcasing colors from the palette in their own projects as well! You can search #21DaysOfColor on IG to see how these colors are used, and if any of the awesome projects inspire you, the colors from the BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette are now available at The Home Depot stores nationwide!

Barnwood Gray:  A warm and welcoming gray

When BEHR Paint reached out to see if I was interested in featuring one of these colors, I automatically thought of my closet.  While I loved the previous blue hue of my walk-in closet, it didn’t flow well with the rest of my home, and I wanted it to feel cohesive with our more neutral bedroom which the closet is open to.

Choosing the CORRECT Paint for the Job:

For the Cabinets:

I am so glad the professionals at Behr suggested that I use Behr Premium Cabinet & Trim Enamel, because these cabinets get a lot of wear.  This paint dries to a hard durable finish, so no need to stress about little knicks and scratches.   I could feel comfortable knowing that my hard work of repainting them wouldn’t go in vain.

I am so glad the professionals at BEHR Paint suggested that I use BEHR PREMIUM® Interior Cabinet & Trim Enamel, because these cabinets get a lot of wear.  This paint dries to a hard durable finish, so no need to stress about little nicks and scratches.  I could feel comfortable knowing that my hard work of repainting them wouldn’t go in vain.  I didn’t use a primer on the cabinets when repainting them because the previous paint was low in sheen (eggshell finish), however, if it had been a shinier finish, I probably would have primed the cabinets first.  The coverage was amazing, and I just love how smooth and custom the Barnwood Gray makes my cabinets look.

The Grid Wall:

I also went ahead and painted the grid wall Barnwood Gray, using BEHR MARQUEE Interior in Eggshell. BEHR MARQUEE is a paint and primer so it easily covered the dark blue color.  I just love how it compliments the wooden bench seat and floors.

To jazz up the space a little, I ordered a new runner from Home Depot.  It’s a great modern pattern, which helped ground the space, give our feet a soft place to land, and allowed me to bring in other cool neutral elements, such as these pillows:

I was so pleasantly surprised with the home decor selection available at The Home Depot.  If you’re like me, you may not realize they even offer interior furniture, wall decor, and housewares that fit nearly every aesthetic!  They offer items that are on trend and affordable, like this striped pillow, solid textured pillow and this cozy throw blanket to soften up the bench seat. It’s the perfect spot for watching the sailboats coast through the bay, or for curling up to journal, or read a good book.

And lastly, I couldn’t forget about storage! I also grabbed a few new bins for the cubbies.  I don’t know what it is lately, but I’ve been finding a monotone vibe to be quite soothing and comforting.

So what do you think? It’s a bit of an upgrade I think, I feel like the Barnyard Gray totally elevated the look of the closet, taking it from feeling disconnected to cohesive and sophisticated. Although I won’t be able to enjoy this view for much longer, I know the new homeowner will appreciate this awesome update.
