September is here friends, which means summer, much like our time here in our Victorian fixer upper, is coming to an end. I have all the emotions right now as the fall season is my absolute favorite in this home. But instead of dwelling too deep on those feelings (because I swear, feeling pitiful was not going to help get this house packed), I channeled that energy into putting a special little housewarming gift together for our buyer. Have you ever considered a housewarming gift for your home’s new owner?
Better Homes & Gardens September Challenge
Last month I shared that I became a part of the Better Homes & Gardens Influencer Network. Well this month I was asked to introduce myself and to share how I introduce fall into my home.
For those of you who are new here, I’m Carli and my journey into home decor, diying and (later) blogging all stemmed from a place of needing to do things on a budget. I began my blog in 2010 during the recession, and although I’ve always loved to challenge myself to create looks for less, the necessity to do so budget consciously, helped spark my creativity. And to this day, being resourceful, and challenging myself in that way is still my favorite way to create!
Introducing Fall into my home:
Since we are moving, (this week actually) I decided to introduce fall into our home with a twist—by putting together a warm welcome to our home’s new owner.
Welcome Your Home’s New Owner at the Door
The 1st thing I did was create a welcoming fall entry. A few new planters chock full of beautiful rust colored mums was an easy way to make the new buyer feel welcomed. The classic shape and color of these square planters were the perfect addition to the front steps. I also added a few lanterns with battery operated candles to make it feel extra warm and inviting.
A Small Gift
I also put together a small gift using this round tray. I filled it with a couple more lanterns, this beautiful sapphire hued bud vase, sweet smelling vanilla jar candle, and some new hand towels.
Provide Helpful Information
Along with the gift basket I left a folder of helpful information for the new buyers, which includes appliance manuals, warranty info, Built-In Blue tooth speaker passwords, paint colors, fan remotes and other important things for them to know about the house. I also added a list of my favorite neighborhood restaurants for her convenience.
On a personal level, I added a small note (or in my case a little love letter to the house), which is basically a list of my favorite things about the house that she may not realize at first, like: the view of the sun rising over the bay from the East facing bedrooms on early winter mornings, the abundant harvest of mulberries, raspberries and Concord grapes that grow wildly in the backyard, and the sweet smelling jasmine that crawls over our back fence in late Summer, ahhhh, I could go on and on.
It’s been a long time since I’ve purchased a home that wasn’t abandoned, lol, but if I did, I would love to be welcomed to my new home this way. What do you think friends?
