Setting Up Our Boys’ Shared Bedroom for the Holidays

It seems like just yesterday I was sharing Cayden’s tween room reveal from our last house, but now we’re onto our new house and we are starting to get settled.  While I wasn’t 100% sure of the direction I wanted to take the room in for the long term, I knew one thing for sure, the two youngest boys (11.5 and 5.5) would be sharing a space for the time being.

Here’s a look at what we started with:

And where we are today.  (The main differences are paint on the walls and the floors being refinished.)

For now we gave the room a phase 1 makeover inspired by winter, because what better way to feel cozy in a new space than to feel the warmth of the holidays?

We started with a paint job, and the Leighton Bunk Bed from Better Homes and Gardens.  This bunk bed is priced so well (under $200.00), especially since it has the ability to be used as a bunk or two twin beds!  My boys really wanted a bunk bed, but I decided to keep them separate for now, until I’m able to swap out the ceiling fan. Also, I’ve secretly always wanted to set up a room for them like this.  I think beds placed side by side are charming, and are great for those late-night sibling conversations 🙂

Kids room holiday decor

This bunk bed was super easy to assemble.  I actually involved the two boys in assembling it, and I’m pretty sure we had them both put together in less than an hour!

I paired the bunk beds with a vintage campaign chest to add some warmth to the space, and for the bedding, I ordered another of the Buffalo Plaid Oversized throw that I had previously purchased to keep them cozy at night.  For some reason everyone seems to fight over this blanket in our house, so I can definitely see it being added to a few other family member’s Christmas lists

I also picked up this windowpane floor cushion.  I legit have a soft spot in my heart for windowpane patterns and when I saw this released from Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart in the fall I knew I had to have one.  Plus the boys, just love it!  I always find them lounging on it when gaming or while watching a movie, if the cat hasn’t already taken it over, lol.

I’m a HUGE fan of garlands, big, small, real, fake, beaded, (you get the point!), because I just think they are instantly festive.  I layered two beaded garlands from Walmart over the window.

Lastly, I got a little creative and put together these cute little holiday wall displays, using a poster frame, wrapping paper and this adorable acacia serving board

To create this wall art:

  • Grab a large frame.
  • Wrap the frame backing in your favorite wrapping paper or fabric.
  • Re-assemble your frame and hang a wreath, large ornament or (in my case) serving board on top of the frame using a ribbon and hot glue.

I love how this space, so easily feels “together” with minimal effort.  Do you add holiday decor to the bedrooms in your home?

Super cute! What lucky boys you have. Can you please tell me where that great dresser inbetween the beds is from?

What a sweet room! I have a soft spot for matching twin beds set up like this. Probably because the room I always slept in at my grandparents house growing up had them, but I feel you on that! I really love the wall hanging you did over the bed! So creative! Absolutely love the pops of green too.

I decorate in all the bedrooms too! But mine is my favorite. Haha! I was admiring my dresser set up this morning and decided the white, silver and gold was totally fine to stay up through February. Sure there’s a Christmas tree, but I can just call it a tiny evergreen and it will be totally justifiable. 🙂
