Over the weekend we had a small get together with family that we haven’t seen in months. I had planned on doing some cookie decorating with our youngest two boys, but was pleasantly surprised when our oldest two decided they wanted to join in on the fun! For those who are new around here, we have four kids, ages 6, 12, 18, and 21.
Quite a span, I know, but although they’re all getting older, they still like to take part in fun activities like cookie decorating with their little brother.
There was even a bonus, because our 17-year old nephew was visiting and was happy to take part in the fun too! This moment made my heart melt, time really flies and they’ve all grown so fast!
I put together some simple Valentine’s Day décor for this cookie decorating party, using some items I picked up at Walmart by Better Homes & Gardens. I started with this striped fabric as a table cloth and then used these serving platters/grazing boards as “decorating stations.”
They come as a set of 6 which includes the beautiful acacia wood serving tray, 4 square porcelain appetizer plates and 1 larger rectangular plate. This set is great for entertaining because it’s so versatile.
I also put together a cute little Shirley Temple Bar.
I used a large frame as a backdrop to create the “Shirley Temple Bar” sign.
And I decked out the bar with this great juice set, it comes with 2 pitchers and 8 glasses. Kyle felt so fancy drinking from them. This set was a perfect addition to my Shirley Temple Bar and it was so affordable at only $20!
I also used a glass hurricane with some alstroemeria and a small votive to add some ambiance. I love how this turned out. We used Sprite and Ginger Ale, grenadine and of course some cherries and fresh strawberries as a garnish.
When all was said and done, I gathered up the remaining candies and decorations and placed them in these pretty jars. Sometimes just placing candies in a pretty jar is an easy way to create pretty vignettes.
Since I tend to be a little modest with my holiday decorating, I think a little pink ( or red, or even just a few hearts) goes a long way!
I’ve really been into votive candles lately, and the shiny pink votive holders work perfectly tucked here and there.
Here, I gathered two glass hurricane vases, one with some winter branches, and the other with a pillar candle and I nestled a pink votive holder in between.
I feel like Valentine’s Day is like the gateway to spring decorating, the pinks and pastels really help to bring on the lighter and brighter feeling of the season to come.
Speaking of lighter and brighter, I swapped out my heavier plaid curtains for these lighter, linen-like striped curtains, and it instantly made the space feel less heavy.
Really, to create these different Valentine’s Day Inspired vignettes, I just mixed and matched a few different items to create different looks for different areas of my home.
It’s as simple as gathering:
- A pink Candle
- A pink pillow, with a cozy throw
- A vase/or vases with branches or festive flowers
- A soft pink votive holder
- A small bowl with fresh fruit or candies and gather it all up on either a cake stand or a tray and Voila! You have your simple Valentine’s Day Decor!
