Hi Friends! It’s been a while since I’ve shared family tidbits on here.  But family life events have been consuming me lately as our daughter is heading off to college next week!  In 6 days she’ll be moving into her college dorm!  Naturally, I have all the feels, but mostly anxiety about making sure she’ll have everything she needs in her dorm room to be comfortable.

Luckily, Nia won’t be too far away as she is attending college in Boston, so she can easily take the trip back home to gather things over time, but there’s just something about move in day that feels . . . so final.

When our son went to college 3 years ago. Time really flies, he’ll be graduating in December!

Our son went to college in-state, so it all felt so different, it also probably had to do with the fact that he attends the same college as I did, so it felt familiar and . . . easy.  With Nia, our only daughter, being an hour and forty five minutes away it feels extremely nerve-racking.

College Dorm Shopping for Our Daughter

Anyway, there are a ton of college dorm packing lists available on the web,  so I won’t reinvent the wheel per se, but I figured I’d share a few essentials that we’ve bought so far.

You can click directly on the images to shop.

College Dorm Decor

You may notice that there weren’t any decorative items included on our shopping list, well that’s because we are starting with neutrals and will finalize decorative things this week.  I’m pretty sure we’ll be going with a modern boho vibe, similar to her room at our last home:

Teen girl's boho bedroom

While Nia is a lot like me, and likes a neutral base, this pic (above) of her room at our former home, captures Nia’s essence a bit more than her current bedroom at home. (below)

Nia lucked out and got a single! We anticipate that it will look a little something like this below, so we’ll need to give it a lot of sprucing:

Nia plans on having a photo wall, string lights, plants and hangy things—like most teens, so as we spend the next few days deciding on a few decorative items, I’ll be sure to post about it :).

Are there any college dorm essentials you think we’ve missed?
