Hello friends! it’s here, it’s finally here, the final reveal of my DIY Built-In over doorway kitchen shelves.
You may recall a couple of weeks ago when I shared my vision for this project. Well, a few things changed from my original mock-up for this built-in, but overall, I am so happy with how it turned out.
I’ve received so many nice comments on this project, but I think my favorite is that “this built-in looks like it has always been here.” That just makes my heart so happy, because I believe that loving a house doesn’t necessarily mean, ripping things down and tearing everything out, I believe it means learning to live with or accentuate its quirkiness in a way that honors the home, while also being functional for those who live within its walls.
Here are a few close-ups:
On the left side, I’m able to store all of my appetizer plates, as well as dip and sauce bowls for when I entertain.
On the right side, I installed a small pullout spice rack for plastic cups, so Ky can easily access them.
On the second shelf, I placed my collection of lidded beer can glasses. And on the bottom shelf, I’m storing all of Kyles’s plastic plates and bowls. This has cleared up a ton of space in my pantry and freed up space in my Tupperware drawer, which makes me sooooo happy.
Let’s just remember what we started with:
And what it looks like now:
This built-in project took a space that seemed virtually unusable and made it beautiful, interesting and functional, and I couldn’t be happier!
