Today, I’m thrilled to share the reveal of our latest project: replacing a dated popcorn ceiling with cedar planks in our sitting room. As you may recall, this sitting room has undergone quite the journey. It all started with a simple fireplace makeover when we first moved in, where we added a rustic beam mantel and a fresh coat of paint to breathe new life into the space.

A year or two later I decided to do a full fireplace surround makeover, adding a bit more sophistication to the space.

But eventually the space just fell flat. So this year, with the addition of the DIY built-ins I was able to further elevate the room, adding, interest, functionality and style.

But the pièce de résistance of this room transformation is undoubtedly the new ceiling treatment:

This update not only modernizes the space but also creates a cozy atmosphere perfect for lounging and entertaining.

In addition to the new ceiling, I brought in a new, comfy sofa and ceiling light.

Adding a new sofa, allows for more seating when entertaining, and honestly makes the space just so much cozier.

The 72” Portola sofa invites relaxation, while the modern Talon ceiling light ((both from LuLu & Georgia) adds a touch of sophistication overhead.

And let’s not forget the final finishing touch – custom drapes from Two Pages curtains. Now I’m sure you’ve heard all the hype about these drapes all over social media, well I’m here to tell you, it’s REAL—With pleats, liner, and memory-trained fabric, these drapes are ABSOLUTELY STUNNING—-Not only do they enhance the room’s aesthetic but they also offer practical light control and privacy.

Not only am I loving the way this room looks now that it is finally complete, I’m loving the way it feels. It’s so cozy, like a warm hug.

We decided to keep the ceiling panels unstained, and I think it was a good decision.

So what do you guys think?

I love this solution to your popcorn ceiling! Our kitchen, living room, entry and hallway to bedrooms are all one continuous ceiling. Wondering how this would look. What height are your ceilings? Thanks!!

Thank you!!!🥰 Our ceilings are just about 8 ft.
Did you use any type of sealant on the cedar. I love the look and color of the wood and we are putting cedar on the ceiling in 2 upstairs bedroom…but our builder is recommending putting a sealant on the wood before installing

Hi Cu this! We did not. I liked the natural look. However if I were going to I would use a clear, matte sealer like Minwax Polycrylic.
Hi I love this ceiling and wood floor combo! We are currently looking at designing our front room with similar ceiling wood and floor color. Can you please share what type of cedar this was? Also, what type of wood is on your floor and do you recall the finish that was used? We are really wanting to keep the natural light finish for the ceiling and a little warmer floor color, just like what you guys did. Looks amazing!
