If you’ve been following along with my breezeway renovation, you know this space has been a work in progress, evolving from a basic pass-through into a fully functional and stylish extension of our home. Part 4 was all about storage, because, let’s be real, a beautiful space isn’t nearly as enjoyable if it doesn’t work for your everyday needs.

The Storage Plan
This phase focused on maximizing every inch of space with:
- Two unfinished drawer cabinets for concealed storage
- A small diy/custom built shelf with a wood cubby for easy-access items
- One tall unfinished pantry cabinet for all those essentials I want to stash away but keep handy
- Corner shelves to add a little open storage and display space
The goal was to strike a balance between function and aesthetics, and I think I nailed it!
The Show-Stopping Countertop
To bring in a bit of modern flair, I installed a Wilsonart Thinscapes counter in Pietra Noir, and let me tell you—the bold veining is everything. It adds just the right amount of drama while keeping the space feeling polished and elevated.
The Great Cabinet Paint Debate
Now, about the cabinets. I went back and forth (and back again) on what color to paint them. I stared at paint swatches for days, questioning every decision like I was on a home improvement game show. But ultimately, I landed on Behr Sculptor Clay—a soft, neutral tone that works effortlessly with the rest of the space. This room faces East so it gives off a cooler tone, however in our sitting room, that faces South, the color looks much more warm.
And, if I’m being completely honest, this choice came down to working smarter, not harder (or, you know…laziness). Instead of complicating things with a brand-new color, I let this tried-and-true neutral do its thing. And I’m so glad I did because it became the perfect backdrop for all my accessories—letting every detail shine without overpowering the space.
Alot of the accessories I used are items I already had on hand. The adorable rattan sconce came as a set of 2, I used one on my coffee bar and I was so glad to be able to use this one here, as it adds in ore warmth and character to the space.
My diy bench is still hanging in there, and it fits perfectly here.
I knew I wanted to store my miter saws under the desk so a skirt was a necessity! I ordered these cafe curtains in taupe, and the color was absolutely perfect! I used hem tape to get the right length and I love how they turned out.
I was planning to use some cup pulls that I already had on hand, but they were a little too small. One thing I’ve learned about design is if the scale is off, it can throw the whole design. So I ordered these longer pulls from Amazon and I love the way they look.
On the shelves, I used clear jar canisters to keep my mini paint rollers and brushes neatly contained, with another dedicated to small acrylic paint bottles. For all the little tools I reach for often—writing utensils, my hot glue gun, small hammers, and scissors—I repurposed a utensil caddy to keep everything organized and within easy reach.
Final Thoughts
This phase was all about bringing in function without sacrificing style, and I love how it turned out. The added storage makes the breezeway feel more organized and intentional, while the countertop and color choices pull everything together beautifully.
Up next? Well, knowing me, I’ll probably tweak a few things because I just can’t help myself. But for now, I’m soaking in this phase and finally getting these cabinets organized, because what’s the point of all this storage if I don’t put it to good use?
