Moving into a new-to-us home is always exciting… but let’s be honest — it takes time (and a few thoughtful updates) to make it truly feel like ours. The good news? Sometimes the smallest swaps can make the biggest difference, and when it feels like there is too much that needs to be done, tackling one-day projects can give you the perfect dopamine boost that’s very much needed.  On my latest trip to Lowe’s, I picked up a few new finds that quickly helped change the vibe of the entryway. I love that Lowe’s carries so many new products that make updating my home easy and affordable.

Prepping the Space

The house has plenty of exterior projects waiting for attention, but I decided to start with the pavers. They were completely overrun with weeds and littered with debris, which left the whole entry looking messy and neglected.

So first thing’s first, I had to tackle the weeding–which is definitely a tedious job, but one that had to be done, and the difference is so worth it.

Next, I pulled out the Toro 3-in-1 Blower Vac from Lowe’s.

It’s not just for fall leaves — this thing blows, vacuums, and mulches, which makes cleaning up weeds, dirt, and leaves so much faster.

Instead of spending hours sweeping, raking or bending down to bag everything, the Toro cleared the area in minutes.

And just like that, we had a blank slate!

Updating the Lighting

Next up was swapping out the dated old light fixture for something with a bit more presence.

I went with the Allen + Roth Lane 4-Light Matte Black Pendant from Lowe’s—it’s sleek and timeless with just the right amount of character. With the entryway’s substantial trim work, I knew a clean-lined pendant with a subtle traditional nod would be the perfect balance. The matte black finish instantly updated the entryway, while the sleek design made the whole portico feel fresh, polished, and intentional.

Lighting is one of those details you don’t think about every day, but once you update it, the entire space feels transformed.

Adding the Finishing Touches

With the weeds cleared and the new pendant hung, it was time to add some personality to the space. I pulled in a few planters that had been left behind and filled them with spirea that I picked up from the Lowe’s Garden center—these helped soften all of the hard lines and hardscape. I also brought in a new doormat to help ground the space.

These little touches pulled the whole space together and made it feel intentional without being fussy.

Now, when we walk up to the house, it feels fresh, welcoming, and ours. The weeds are gone, the pendant glows at night, and it all together adds just enough personality to make the space feel more like home.

Sometimes it’s the small updates — paired with the right tools — that make the biggest difference.
