Friends this summer has been a lot. The kind of “a lot” where you blink and somehow it’s August, and you realize you’ve barely posted because life has been one big, wonderful, chaotic blur.
We closed on a house! A 1912 Georgian Colonial full of history, charm, and plenty of “pinch me, is this real?” moments.
There’s a greenhouse, transom windows everywhere, an outdoor kitchen, a spacious primary suite, and — above the garage — a private apartment we’ll be fixing up for our oldest son and his girlfriend so they can have their own space but still be close to home.
It’s been a vacation rental for the past five-ish years, so while it’s move-in ready, it could definitely use some updates. Which, honestly, is exactly the kind of project we love.
And in 113 years, we’re only the fourth owners — something about that feels really special.
This new place is quite bigger, which means more room for holidays, game nights, family sleepovers, and those inevitable “everyone ends up in the kitchen” moments.
The attic is finished with bedrooms and a 3/4 bathroom (perfect for Cayden and Kyle).
The lower level has a billiard room, a kitchenette, and a cozy TV room.
Outside, there’s mature landscaping and a serene pond–yes a POND! that makes the whole property feel like it’s out of a story book.
Why the move?
If you’ve been around for a while, you know I’ve said more than once that Hosta House wasn’t our forever home. We bought it during the pandemic and never expected to stay for five years. We truly love that house and have made so many core memories there, but we were ready for something a little different — a more diverse community, a bit more house for our money, and still close to our moms and other family members.
And for everyone who’s been wondering… yes, we’re still in New England onl about 30 minutes from the Hosta House! 🙂
So if you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, I’ve been here — dreaming, planning, and scheming for this very old, very loved home. I can’t wait to take you along for the journey.
