If you were around during the earlier days of blogging, you probably remember the seasonal home tour era. 😂 Every fall, we’d run around decorating every corner of our houses so we could photograph it all and share a full fall home tour.
I definitely participated. And while I love looking back at those photos, thankfully those days are behind me because I take a much simpler approach to seasonal decorating now.
These days, I’m much more likely to focus on a few little moments around the house rather than transforming every room.

Bringing the Outside In
This is one thing that apparently hasn’t changed. 😂 Some of my favorite fall arrangements have always come straight from the yard. Colorful branches in an oversized vase, dried hydrangeas, leaves, whatever I can find.
Not only is it free, but one big arrangement can make more of an impact than a bunch of little seasonal decorations scattered around the room.

A Few Simple Seasonal Touches
A bowl of apples. A few mini pumpkins. A DIY leaf garland. Candles. A cozy throw.
Looking back at some of my favorite fall spaces, there really wasn’t that much seasonal decor in them. It was usually just a few things mixed in with pieces I already had.

Let Your Home Do Some of the Work
Warm wood, old brick, woven baskets, vintage pieces and cozy textiles already lend themselves beautifully to fall. Especially in an older home.
And honestly, when the leaves outside the windows look like that, why compete with them?

So while I don’t miss running around trying to make every corner of my house fall-home-tour ready, I still love creating a few little seasonal moments.
And now that we’ve officially been in our current home for a full year, I guess it’s about time she got a proper name. Around here, we’ve started calling her The Georgian. 🤎 I’ve been slowly adding a few fall touches there too, which I’ll be sharing soon.
For now, I’m taking my own advice: use what you have, clip something from the yard, add a little warmth and let fall do the rest. 🍂
I have always enjoyed your posts. Your home is lovely and welcoming.
