I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out how to add lighting to this entrance without dealing with electrical wiring. Then it finally dawned on me: solar sconces!

Two stone urns filled with foraged fall greenery flanking white French doors at a Georgian Colonial entrance.

I wanted something that looked like a traditional exterior light and complemented the Georgian, but I didn’t want to hire an electrician or start opening walls for what should have been a relatively simple update.

These solar sconces ended up being the perfect workaround.

Why Solar Sconces Worked Here

  • No electrical wiring required
  • Quick and relatively easy to install
  • Traditional style that suits the house
  • Enough light to brighten the entrance at night
  • No visible cords or bulky separate solar panels

Before installing solar lights, consider how much sunlight the area receives during the day. This entrance gets enough light to charge them, but a heavily shaded location may not work as well.

Each sconce came with the mounting bracket, hardware, LED bulb and remote. Georgie provided quality control, of course. 😂

Installation couldn’t have been easier.

Attach the mounting bracket, place the sconce over it and secure it with the two decorative cap nuts. No wiring required!

The sconces gave this entrance the warm exterior glow it was missing without turning it into a much bigger project. Honestly, why didn’t I think of this sooner?

Sometimes the best home updates aren’t the most complicated ones. You just need the right workaround.
