Hi Friends! I have a little free time on my hands due to winter break from school! Woot Woot! (Wait, by exclaiming “Woot, Woot!” does that show my age?) Whatevs . . . Because my mind is free, I thought I’d write a quick blog post!
When decorating for Christmas, I am really, really cheap really try not to spend much money. I like to be creative and use items I have on hand…or occasionally I’ll take a trip to my local park, armed with scissors, and I help my self to some fresh clippings from overgrown trees.
This year, was the first year I actually utilized a lot of clippings from my yard.
I threw some trimmings from our Christmas tree, some light up branches that I bought on clearance a few years ago, and a ceramic welcome log that my hubby collected in one of his storage auctions into this old wooden crate.
Boxwood, holly, pine, arborvitae and even rhododendron leaves were clipped from my yard this year to create some cute little arrangements.
For the window boxes, along with the fresh clippings, I gathered pine cones, some lanterns from Christmas Tree Shops that I’ve had for a while, and some battery operated candles from the Dollar Tree.
The Wreath! I have to laugh because I was so proud of my grapevine wreath that I adorned with fresh clippings. That is until we had an almost 70 degree weather day in Rhode Island, that completely fried my wreath!
The beautiful and vibrant greenery, quickly turned brown!!
What are ya gonna do?? I just embraced it! I still think it’s beautiful-sh. I added some burgundy floral picks too, to coordinate with the the arrangements on the steps.
I also added an old scarf that we never wear anymore (I say we because I have a tweenager, which means I have to share everything with her) and weaved it through the tin buckets and crate, to incorporate the color.
What I love most is that it is transitional, it can last for a while after Christmas, or at least until it all turns brown, since it doesn’t SCREAM Christmas.
Thanks so much for taking the time to check out my front porch! Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season! Merry Christmas!
