Alright friends, I did it, I ordered a glass cabinet for the kitchen. I ordered it back in March and it finally arrived this week. I didn’t waste much time getting it installed either. But it wasn’t easy.🤦♀️

Kitchen Updates
It’s been a while since I’ve shared any kitchen updates. Would you believe that we started this renovation a year and a half ago, and it’s still a work in progress?
In the grand scheme of things it has been functional—-but there were still a few things that needed to be completed, and then of course, I had to go ahead and add in one extra thing with the new glass cabinet.
When we bought the house the kitchen had a peninsula with oven in the center of it. Our new layout is more like an oversized galley kitchen, since we have two walls of cabinetry across from each other with a central walkway You can click here to see my early planning process. After we got the cabinets in place, we kind of just quit on this project, so we did an inventory of what was left to do here and decided it was time to check some of these items off of our list.
What needed to be done prior to this week:
- Pantry Cabinet Wall and bridge/over Fridge cabinet needed to be installed
- New Baseboards/trim installed
- Paint touch ups
- Skim or plank the ceiling: the ceiling has a light popcorn texture on it, but when we removed the original rangehood, we had to patch in the ceiling leaving it looking pretty rough.
- Backsplash tile (?) I’ve been playing around with the idea of this, but I’m struggling, since I haven’t found a ton of inspiration of a slab backsplash with tile.
- Glass cabinet installed with crown molding
- New center light
- Paint island

DIY Range Hood Cover
I saw this rangehood from Michael at Inspired by Charm a while ago, and always loved it’s simple but classic style, so I modeled mine loosley off of it. Unfortunately, I’m not sharing a tutorial per se, just some photos to show you the process. I do have a tutorial from a previous DIY Range Hood Cover here.
For my rangehood, I used a self-circulating rangehood, as I did in our previous home, along with charcoal filters and have never had a problem.

While I love open shelves in the kitchen, I decided I wanted the kitchen to look a bit more finished. So I added the glass cabinet, along with the bridge cabinet over the refrigerator and installed the crown molding this week–which was basically the death of me. As I get older, my patience is wearing much thinner when it comes to certain projects.
You can see little of the process here from instagram:

This kitchen has been almost entirely DIY, which is rewarding, but, can also be exhausting. I’ve told myself that if we ever tackle another reno, I will definitely pay for the entire kitchen installation. Welp! Off to check a few more things off of this list! Wish me luck!
